The Black Keys - Tighten Up

thepretender:

JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound’s “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart,” turns the desperately disjointed Wilco track into a triumphant, horn-driven rhythm and blues number that sounds straight out of Stax Studios in 1966.  At times it feels like the idea of Booker T. & the MG’s taking on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is stronger than the actual execution of the idea, but in this case, there are too many great things going on here to write this off as just another cutsey cover.

Discipline is remembering what you want.

Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me

I find this song arresting. It’s just so good to listen to.

Literature is often born out of baffling physical details, an overabundance that tells us that the world’s surface is readable only when we don’t quite know how to pose the right questions to it. In not knowing how to look and not knowing what to say, we begin to fixate on the constituent materials and find ourselves diving under the surface, down to the substratum of art.
