How will you know if you’ve found me at last?
‘Cause I’ll be the one, be the one, be the one
With my heart in my lap
I’m so tired
I’m so tired
And I wish I was the moon tonight
I tell them, “I write this shit for you!” But a lot of writers won’t admit to that, a lot of artists won’t admit to that. They’ll get artistic, or pretentious, or, you know, talk about some “higher calling.” The fact is, I want to move rooms full of people. I want to move someone sitting alone under a reading lamp. I want to move someone sitting on a beach. I want to make them laugh and cry. I want them to see me and come running up to me and tell me how the books made them feel. I love that!
Neko Case - Magpie To The Morning
He sings them for you special, he knows you’re afraid of the dark.
Big Fox - Boring Ones
Sooo…I ran across her debut self-titled LP. And it’s one of those where the album cover sold me to listen, but it’s so good. She’s from Sweden. This song is from the album. If you’re one of those people who likes to jump on an artist’s bandwagon in the early parts of the popularity train, I’m chugging along as conductor on this one right now.
The review I wrote at rdio:
I have no idea who she is (I will google after I write this) but I’m playing this right now (not on rdio) and I have to say I’m absolutely positively impressed. This is sounds like some kind of Tori Amos “Under the Pink” fused with Neko Case-ish introspection and Regina Spektor-like piano dexterity. In short? A bundle of awesomeness. Maybe how I’d imagine Alina Orlova in English…check it out.
Neko Case - The Pharaohs
i only heard what i wanted
Middle Cyclone is on my list of favorite albums ever.
The New Pornographers - Valkyrie In The Roller Disco
You’re a gold mine, gold mine
Neko Case - The Pharaohs
who knows what she’ll say
i only heard what i wanted
This album won’t get old. Nope.
The New Pornographers - Valkyrie In The Roller Disco
While I’m really enjoying The National - High Violet LP, The New Pornographers album Together came out of nowhere for me. It’s quite good. I had a very hard time picking the right song to play here. When I think of stuff that makes me okay with being older, songs and albums that have the feel of “I guess these are the tracks that will be my oldies,” this album comes to mind.
I mean that in a totally good way. I mean, I’m not sure I can really get down with jamming to “Gin & Juice” in my waning days. But I could be wrong. Anyway, check out this album, I suspect you’ll be happy with it.
