Alabama Shakes - Hold On

The best band of 2011 that I never heard of. Holy, holy cow. Female fronted southern garage rock. They’ll be in Boulder on February 4th and I intend to join them. Wowza. It’s as if Drive-By Truckers, Kings of Leon and The Black Keys got together and adopted someone with Adele’s pipes as their lead singer.

Yeah, it’s that epic.

This is a really chilled out version of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep, performed by Mike Posner. Its got a little sex appeal, but its definitely making this rainy day seem a little brighter. Enjoy the cover.

It’s an acceptable cover and a dude should probably tackle the track on principle. But…his cover is just too muted. The beauty of her track is how it builds up, how her voice carries the ENTIRE song and the production of it supports that, but you’ve got to have pipes to make that track work. I’ve been killing it for days, but it didn’t even hit me that hard when I first saw the video. Something about it on wax, the first song on the LP and all of that made it work so much better. I had some kind of a-ha! moment.

Whereas I laugh when Carrie Underwood does a track like Before He Cheats or Miley Cyrus does Party In The U.S.A. because those are the sorts of tracks written for anyone to get in front of and essentially make work. Rolling In The Deep works because of Adele’s delivery in the same way that Lisa Stansfield makes All Around The World work. This is probably too much deconstruction for a cover, but…so it goes.

I get that this is the era that everyone remixes everyone’s stuff (I mean, I’m working on my own Black & Yellow remix as we speak. Laugh.) but…let the ink dry on this one or come correct.

Adele - Rolling In The Deep

There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch, it’s bringing me out the dark
Finally I can see you crystal clear
Go ‘head and sell me out and I’ll lay your shit bare

This song is the goods.
