Robot and Frank (2012)

heywatchthismovie:

I saw the trailer for this a few weeks ago, forgot about it and then remembered it when I was in the city this weekend. The tale is a story about a character who served two stints during his kid’s childhood as a petty thief. He’s old, divorced for 30 years and living alone in an old house by himself. His memory is going and his son comes up once a week to see him.

As it’s meant to take place sometime in the near future, his son brings him a personal robot assistant to keep an eye on him. Frank is resistant to the robot at first, but over time, the robot grows on him. They become friends. And as friends are wont to do, they begin adventures that make this movie a bit of a curveball than your average robot movie.

Robot and Frank confronts aging, memory and family with a deftness you don’t often see. At times it was perhaps sad, maybe painful. But so well acted that all I could do was smile throughout. It’s funny and probably among the best movies I’ve seen this year.
